We signed up for a jungle river venture, and the next day left Fortuna  in a van for Los Chiles, a few km from the Nicaraguan border.   The ride was 2.5 hours each way and took us to the north through rich agricultural areas growing papaya, bananas, taro root bananas, taro root, ginger, melon, guava, and past vast orange orchards.   Top

As a result of the hurricane-induced floods in Nicaragua, the river was flooded well beyond the banks and into agricultural fields isolating many animals in small jungle islands.  The flow of the river into Lake Nicaragua was constrained.  We discovered many species of exotic birds along the way.   Top

At the end of the trip, we hugged Tirza and said farewell.  Top
