South Island - Queenstown

                        Queenstown     Night Life

It was a long, but beautiful trip to Queenstown through the Alps and along two very large lakes, Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka, then on to Queenstown which is situated at the end of Lake Wakatipu.  Our intent was to stay a few days at Queenstown to recover, have a good time and use it as a jumping off point to Milford Sound.  Indications were that it was a fun town with lots of good food, pubs and entertainment.  We weren't disappointed.

One approaches Queenstown from a mountain top and follows a steep decline into a valley.  We stayed at the Meridian Hotel overlooking Lake Wakatipu.

A storm moved in and we laid back for a day. The weather had been great; time to do some laundry, Top

Night Life The night life was spectacular

Lone Star Bar (Best Steak I ever had!)

After 2 days rest we were off to Milford Sound, a long drive around Lake Te Anau, the town of Te Anau and then through the alps of the Fjordland National Park.  Had a reservation the next day to sail on a motor sailor and stay overnight on the Sound.  Top
